Do you know if your friend is having difficulty with reporting an abuse? Do you think you have been sexually abused? Are you uncomfortable with a particular adults' actions and messages to you?
Don't wait. Be bold.

FOR PARENTS
If a child or young person approaches you about an abuse case, do not take it lightly. It takes a lot of courage for someone to open up, so be quick to help in any way possible. Here are some tips:

GET MEDICAL ATTENTION
An immediate medical examination by a trained health care professional is important. These experts have been trained to examine cases involving sexual abuse, and they look for signs of physical and sexual abuse.
The sooner this exam is done, the better the evidence for treatment and healing. They will examine affected areas like mouth, throat, penis, anus, and vagina, including the hymen.
Sexually transmitted infections tests such as syphilis and HIV Aids, and pregnancy in females will also be done. These tests will help determine treatment for you.

Did you know:
Domestic violence is also a form of physical abuse, even though the abuse is between two adults. The adults could be parents, married couples, girlfriends and boyfriends and same-sex relationships. It can be very scary if a child (including teens) is caught up in domestic abuse. The child can see and hear all the violent things going on and that can have huge impact on them.
